Hike the LYCIAN WAY
with small backpacks

English speaking group
20/03 - 28/03/2021
Turkey is not only about all-inclusive hotels. The country has a huge cultural heritage, as well as a lot of places for active tourism.
We will follow one of the most famous hiking trails in the world — the Lycian Way. The trail is 525 kilometers long and runs along the Mediterranean coast. We will walk along the western part, about 100 kilometers. On the way we will have gorgeous views, including orange groves and the sea every day. This time of the year in Turkey it is 18 degrees during the day and 10 at night, and there is little rain.
Hike format:
We will arrive in Turkey with big hiking backpacks and tents. All days, except for the first and last, we will hike with small backpacks. We will transfer big backpacks from day 2 to day 7 of the hike to the nearest convenient place, from where they can be picked up by a car and taken to the next overnight stay.
For example: we spend the night in tents, pack all our things in big backpacks, walk 1 km. to the road, leave our big packs and continue with day packs. A car with backpacks comes in the evening and we walk 500 meters to our evening campsite.

We will meet in Antalya, get to know each other, and lay out our backpacks. We will walk along the beautiful streets, then spend the night in a hotel.
Day 1
Itinerary:
In the morning we will arrive at the bus station in Antalya and move to the starting point of our route, to the village Ulupinar. From there we will go along the route 5.5 kilometers (with big backpacks) to the Chimaera mount. On the pass, one side is to the sea, and the starry sky is above us. Very closeby are mystical tongues of flame that have been bursting straight from the mountain for more than a millennium. We will also fry sausages on these flames using a special recipe.
Day 2
We will leave early, because today we have to walk 21 kilometers and ascend and then descend 600 meters. We pass through the ancient city of Olympos and go to the trail. We will spend the night on a secluded beach near the town of Adrasan.
Day 3
In the morning we move towards the city of Karayoz. It is 13 kilometers away along the gorge. We will arrive and set up our campsite.
Day 4
We will trek towards the lighthouse. Then we return to our tents, pack up and go to the city of Karaez. A minibus is waiting for us there, which will take us to Demre. The rest of the day we walk, see the ruins of the ancient city. We will spend the night at the campsite. There is a shower at that campsite.
Day 5
Next, we will pass by the island of Kekova. Previously it was a city known as Dolihiste. The city was sunk by a strong earthquake in the 2nd century AD. If desired and time available, we can go there for an excursion.
Day 6
Our trail will pass through the ancient Lycian cities - Apollonia and Aperlae. We will follow the road that was laid in 500 BC. We spend the night in one of the picturesque bays. On this day we will cover 21 kilometers.
Day 7
The following day we will walk 8 kilometers with big backpacks. Sometimes the trail will go along the sea, sometimes it will go deep into the gorges. We spend the night in a bay near the city of Kas.
Day 8

  • My wife and I went to OTW tour this August. It was amazing! We've seen lots of great locations in Iceland, both popular touristic attractions and hidden gems.

There were 2 organizers and 4 more people (8 in total). We had a great time hiking, bathing in hot springs, admiring the waterfalls and glaciers, taking pictures of puffins, and having fun in the evening playing board games. If weather is good and you can even swim in the ocean! We've seen lots of mountains and filming locations of Game of Thrones, Black mirror, Prometheus and others.

The organizers were super-engaging and always making sure everyone is having fun.

To summarize - Iceland is a great country to visit and OTW tour is the best way to get to know it! Thanks Dmitrii and Elvira for the amazing time we had in Iceland.
  • I have always had the dream to visit Iceland for its natural beauty and the scenic locations, but was put off by the expensive food and stay, which is when I stumbled across this tour.

The tour was very cheap considering it was for 14 days, and the thrill we got in staying in tents instead of hotels was second to none. We made our own food, travelled together with the group and had a great experience in a budget which was very economical.

Some of the locations were so beautiful and not at all mentioned in any of the itineraries I had checked before, and this was all thanks to our guides Elvira and Dimitry who were there with us the entire time to unearth this beautiful nation.

I would highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to have an adventurous 2 weeks and explore Iceland without spending too much. It has been one of my best experiences ever.
  • This tour is the best option if you want to visit in Iceland as many places as possible within 2 weeks. You don't need to worry about anything except warm, dry clothes and comfortable shoes - everything else included in the tour.

In my first visit in Iceland I've spent 700 euros in 4 days and visited only around Reykjavik places, was living in hostels (terrible experience with roommates) and was eating food from the shops all the time because simple burger in cafes costs 25 euros. I've spent for this tour just 2 times more but got 20 times better experience and spent 14 days in Iceland instead of 4. We slept in tents all nights and it was much better way than any hostel can offer to you. Every day of the tour I swam in the natural hot tubes which is very "icelandic" thing and we were fed well with barbecue and other very nice dishes. None of the other guests were complaining about food or accommodation in tents. Every camp had a shower and toilet so no problem at all to be 2 weeks in this trip.

Out tour guide and the driver Dmitry showed to us so many hidden things and non touristic places that you cannot even imagine that they are exists and mosts tourists do not know about them. Also we visited I think all of the places which photos you can find in any articles about Iceland and this is very nice when you can say "I've been there".

If you like nature, want to feel Iceland not from the bus with 30 minutes stops on all places (like regular tour) than this is the best option what you can have (also the cheapest one).
